About Me | ECU | Influences | Goals | My Story | Questions

My name is Jessie Jennings and I attend ECU (East Central Univercity) in Ada, Oklahoma to further my knowledge and abilities for my passion.  Out of my 18 years, most of them were spent exploring new instruments or expirementing with the boundaries of an inherited voice.  All of them, though, were spent with a passion for music.

Unless one is born a protegee, no talent is given by God at it's best, and since I'm anything but, I've had to expand as I aged to get to where I am now as a composer.  I was five when my home was adorned with it, my commitment to music was sealed the moment my fingers touched the ivory keys.  I've never looked back since then.

My music is very experimental.  I'm not sure what to label my "sound," since it varies so greatly.  I've written jazz, classical, pop, rock, blues, piano pieces, etc. but my favorite to write is electronic with a mix of other styles put in.  I've recently purchased a Roland Phantom V8 keyboard and after seeing all the possibilities that came with that fabulous invention, I find myself writing more electronic (not techno, although I admit I wrote one for fun once.)

My second favorite to write is classical because it's a powerful type of music (but if you don't agree, well, to each his own).  I remind myself of Mozart, not because of my skill, but because he called himself a copyist.  What he ment by that was he heard all his music in his head and so when he wrote it on his scratch draft, there where no mistakes; all his works were finished before he'd ever picked up his quill.  In that since, I remind myself of him because when I write, most of the time I play what's already in my head.  It's also a sign of a good ear.

What's New?

For now, I reside in Ada and continue to pursue the ambition of music.  Even though at times I feel incompetent -when I first started college for instance- I know God has a plan for my life that involves my heart's dedication to composing.  I've come this far; it'd be a shame to stop now.
